Von Dutch ANZ Launch Gold Coast

Von Dutch ANZ Launch Gold Coast

And I got to DJ the re-launch party x

Long before it became the uniform of paparazzi culture and Hollywood chaos, Von Dutch was the name of a man — and a movement.

Kenny Howard, aka “Von Dutch,” was a California outsider artist, hot-rod mechanic, and pin striper in the 1950s. His style became legendary in underground car culture — a signature look that symbolised freedom, non-conformity, and West Coast rebellion.

But the brand’s real explosion didn’t come until the early 2000s.

Entrepreneurs Mike Cassell and Robert Vaughn acquired the Von Dutch name and transformed it into a fashion label. Then came the cultural lightning strike: truckers caps, loud logos, rhinestones, and unapologetic attitude. Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera — suddenly Von Dutch wasn’t just a brand, it was the visual language of celebrity culture. It defined an era where reality TV, paparazzi, and tabloid fame merged into pop mythology.

By the mid-2000s, Von Dutch had become a symbol of excess — fame, chaos, parties, controversy, and culture. But this icon didnt disappear — It hibernated.

In the years since, Von Dutch has re-emerged as a nostalgia powerhouse, embraced by a new generation obsessed with Y2K culture. On Saturday i was lucky enough to be a part of the relaunch of the brand here on the Gold Coast with the legends at Universal Store, Life without Andy, Von Dutch and Atomic Fm. It was an epic expereince to dig out some remixed Norties beats for the literally half my age crowd at the Hound And Stag brewery

Von Dutch anz IS BACK. IT isn’t just a brand.
It’s a symbol of underground culture going mainstream.
Proof that real icons never die — they just get rediscovered.
